WHY I CHOOSE TO SERVE
I come from a proud family that has been involved with West Virginia public service going as far back as the 1930s. My cousin, Herman Guy Kump, served as the 19th Governor of West Virginia from 1933 to 1937. Like my cousin before me, I, too, want to work for you. We need to bring more good paying jobs to the Falling Waters region, improve school curricula that focus on important academics and not Critical Race Theory, support our law enforcement agencies, and keep all first responders fully funded to protect every citizen. A top priority for me - to protect every West Virginian's 2nd Amendment rights, their right to privacy and personal property, and support our 10th Amendment state's rights from an overreaching authoritarian governance from Washington DC officials and bureaucrats. With a lifetime of government experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate complicated governmental agencies, and get things done.
LIST OF ISSUES
Education: Remove CRT Curricula
Our neighbors to the east of our state in Loudon County, Virginia, have brought to the forefront how important it is that our school's curricula be scrutinized and supported with great oversight by parents.
Since the pandemic forced schools to close and online learning took precedent to educate our children, suddenly parents who were forced to stay home were able to see exactly what their children were being taught. Unfortunately, they discovered that a radical agenda called Critical Race Theory curriculum, as well as over-sexualization studies, are being instituted in every grade level from Kindergarten through High School.
Outraged parents showed up to their School Boards throughout the country to demand that this curriculum be removed from their schools' teachings. It has gained national attention as school board members clashed with parents demanding better from their administrations and teachers.
I passionately agree that our children must have the finest education standards to equip them to face life's challenges. However, using Critical Race Theory is a teaching that devalues people based on the color of their skin. At the same time, this teaching places blame on our nation's woes on one particular race of people.
I vehemently oppose any curriculum that embraces and institutes Critical Race Theory teaching, as well as any curriculum that pursues the over-sexualization of our children.
* I support eliminating all top-heavy state and local school system bureaucracies.
* I support empowering parents and local teachers to fully exercise our 1st Amendment free speech rights to petition our school administrations in order to provide better education for our children and without government harassment.
* I wholeheartedly support eliminating the divisive and socially destructive teaching of Critical Race Theory (sometimes also termed "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion") in our schools.
COVID 19 Policy
I am a firm proponent of our U.S. Constitution and every amendment written since our founding document was written.
I support every West Virginians' right to privacy and personal freedom to make their own choice on whether they should or should not take the vaccines offered currently by the pharmaceutical companies.
As for myself, I have already been vaccinated and have even taken one of the booster vaccines. That was my choice to do.
Yet I recognize that not every person wants to take any of the vaccines for their own reasons.. Those decisions must be respected. Nobody should be forced out of employment or business because of his/her stance on this issue.
If you elect me as your Delegate, I will fight to ensure the 4th Amendment right of all West Virginians to choose whether they wish to be vaccinated or not, and to be free from illegal government mandates and penalties.
I affirm that I will uphold your freedom of religion and privacy established in the Bill of Rights' 1st and 4th Amendments, as well as protect every citizen from the federal government's unconstitutional overreach and its abuse of our 10th Amendment rights (any power not specifically delegated to the federal government is preserved to the states or the people).
Protect Our 2nd Amendment Rights
Our Constitution's words mean exactly what they say: "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
Our right to bear arms and defend ourselves and our families is and must continue to be sacred.
There cannot be any compromise on this principle.
Meaningful Tax Reform
I agree with the tax relief proposal by West Virginia House of Delegates Finance Committee Chairman Eric L Householder (R - Berkeley County). This proposal would use our $1 billion dollar surplus (and growing) to gradually eliminate our personal income tax and personal property tax (such as automobiles, etc.). This proposal does not increase any other taxes or endanger current existing government programs.
In addition to the previous approval of the elimination of state taxes on military pensions and social security, I approve the elimination of state taxes on all other pensions.
I also approve amending the West Virginia State Constitution to allow the state legislature to increase the Homestead Exemption (Article X1C) for senior citizens' property taxes.
Protect the Unborn
I am unapologetically Pro-Life. I believe in the sanctity of protecting the innocent who have no voice to preserve their lives.
The 14th Amendment of our U.S. Constitution ensures that all lives matter!
As your representative, I would always 100% vote to protect the right to live by all our unborn children.
Real Infrastructure: Roads & Broadband Improvements
The population of Berkeley County has grown exponentially in recent years. Our infrastructure has barely been able to keep up with the new influx of residents, needs, and technology demands.
We should use the recently enacted federal grants to make the long overdue (over 30 years) improvements on the overcrowded and dangerous Route #9 between Martinsburg & Berkeley Springs. This is an absolute necessity since new citizens moving into our county are establishing residency in the Falling Waters district. We must improve and expand Route #9 to make it safer and more efficient to drive from Berkeley Springs to Martinsburg.
I also support the hastening of the completion of I-81 improvements. However, we must also remedy the shoddy work previously done on this project.
